Now, here is the thing about Petrus.... I wrote to him and asked him if he wrote a book on his thinking about horsemanship... his website was only enough to whet my appetite for more. Petrus wrote back in the most thoughtful and pleasing manner... ah, the matter of publication from a non-English speaking country.... yes, in the old days that would have stopped a person dead in their tracks as no publisher can think about a book without a promise of 7,000 books in advance sales... but now there is electronic publication and Amazon.com I encouraged him to think about it.
If we are lucky and Petrus ever takes that step into electonic publication, rest assured that we will offer it on the Hinny Whisperer bookstore.
Still talk of books aside, there is a wealth of information on Petrus's pages and any student of the equine would do well to read it several times.
Homo Caballus - Paardrijden volgens HC Choose the English flag.
- walking his talk with bridless trail-riding;
- sharing his well considered philosophy in the interest of improving human/equine relationships;
- being an incredibly down to earth guy who writes in a foreign language like he was a long lost friend.
I must say, over the years, I have met some of the nicest humans on the planet by talking to folks involved with humane ways of equine training. It seems that if they have the capacity to respect the horse as a sentient being, they have the capacity and compassion to also take people into their hearts.

Upon reading my posting, Petrus wrote back to me:
WOW! You wet my eyes Patricia..........
Just one word jarred a bit with my way of looking at things. People often ask me how I control my horses and the answer is that I don't.
I have added three pictures taken today. Me on my stallion taken by my love on a mare in heat. The stallion after arriving back home and then one with the saddle just taken off. That is after only an hour but fairly complicated riding. It's literally 'no sweat' for him, obviously also because he is enormously fit but mostly because he líkes to go out with me.
Yes we have MANY hinnies out here. Way back from Roman days till today mules have alway been valued very highly and they still are the preferred draught animals.
We have a molly mule too in fact. She was wild to the point of actually being dangerous when I bought her. I bought her because she is like she stepped from the walls of the Lascaux cave and I had just returned from a trip to Sadko Solinksi and visited a few ancient sites.
She is a lot more clever than our horses and unfortunately also quite
'street-wise' from her previous life. She has given me her trust and I she will lift her feet for me p.e. It is however impossible to restrain her. She has learned that she has the strength to break free so will do that which means I do not even trý. I will just have to figure out ways to convince her
into wánting it. I see her as my living intelligence test.
On the teaching. I do teach but indeed 'only' riders that already have had the 'penny' drop and wánt to learn what I may help them to teach themselves. 'My' site was built by a Belgian student of me p.e.. Tomorrow we are expecting Alex Brollo (the Italian barefoot 'guru') and his wife as both
students and friends.
I can refer a really amazing book to you. It was written in 1438 by the Portugese King Dom Duarte under he title 'Bem Cavalgar'. For me it is THE best book on riding ever because it deals with the rider. The will, the possibillities, knowledge.
Saludos cordiales,
Petrus
